The Story of Yarra Trail
In a new direction for Yarra Trail we look to our origin story for inspiration. Born in the heart of Melbourne on the banks of the eponymous river, we were inspired by a vision of a brand embodying the spirit of the Yarra itself – natural, beautiful, forward-moving, adventurous and ever-changing.
Yarra Trail’s story is deeply rooted in the vibrant city of Melbourne, specifically along the serene banks of the Yarra River. This iconic river provided the perfect backdrop for the start of a brand that would soon become synonymous with effortless Australian style. Founded in 1984 by Tom Latham, Yarra Trail was born out of a desire to create clothing that reflected the natural beauty and relaxed lifestyle of Australia.
Based in Hong Kong, Tom’s first role was as an export manager, working closely with factories exporting fashion to Europe. Ever the curious mind, with an eye for detail to match, he began to study the pieces that crossed his path, learning the construction, fibres, and fits that defined their made-to-last quality. Years later, in 1984, on the banks of the Yarra River in the heart of Melbourne, Yarra Trail was born.
